Silver Thimble Award
2010 Silver Thimble Award Recipient
Linnea Egbert
Choosing the recipient for the Silver Thimble Award each year is never an easy decision. This Guild is blessed with so many who give so much of themselves to its causes. It brings to mind the Oscars, where there are so many winning choices; one hardly knows where to begin.
I began with some questions:
- 1. Has she been a member of the Guild for at least ten years? Yes, ten exactly.
- 2. Has she held multiple offices on the Board and/or served as Chair of Guild Committees? Yes, Membership Chair, Newsletter Editor, V-P, Pres-Elect and President, to name a few.
- 3. Has she made significant contributions to the Guild through her work, quilting and otherwise? Yes, she is an award-winning quilter, always ready to share what she knows about quilting. She voluntarily spends twenty to thirty hours a week on Guild business. It would take me fifty hours a week to do what she does in that time, but she's faster than a speeding bullet and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.
- 4. Has she made significant contributions to the larger community? Yes, she is quite active in several other charitable organizations and has received special recognition for her contributions.
- 5. Has she made it possible for me to preside successfully, even enjoy, my term as President? Yes, she has been ever ready with timely advice, or astute answers to the bazillion questions I asked, and always offered same with the wit and grace of a mentor and friend.
- 6. Has she supplied the Guild and me with a plethora of good ideas? Yes. She says she gets her best ideas in the shower - I think she must be the cleanest quilter in this guild.
- 7. Does she choose to see the funny side of a possible disaster making it easier for all involved to figure a way through the puzzle? Yes, her laughter is instant and infectious.
- 8. Does she make mistakes - oh, yes; acknowledge them - yes; and set about finding a solution? Yes, she wastes no time looking backward nor placing blame.
- 9. Does she plan for the future, honor the past, yet live in the moment? Yes, I find her heart, character and spirit a wonderful example of what good service, good friendship and good quilting is all about.
With that said, it is my pleasure to present this year's Silver Thimble Award to our own Linnea Egbert.
